Hi, I'm SAFFA Katie, and I am a born-n-bred Capetonian. I have always been one of those people who said; "I will never leave South Africa. THIS is my home, and despite all its warts, I love it".
While I didn't judge others for leaving, I could never quite understand the reasoning behind their move. Yes there is crime, Yes there is unemployment, Yes the economy is crap, Yes there is an abundance of poverty, Yes the government is corrupt. Yes. Yes. Yes. There are so many negatives, but there were always so many more positives aspects than negative, that I (we) were happy.
Enter the Ankle-Biter! Once you have had a child, you definitely see things very differently. All of a sudden, these negative aspects take on new meaning, and despite the fact that one tries to remain optimistic, the harsh reality is that these are very real issues, which are not showing any signs of changing.
So, in March 2018, we made the decision to go to the UK. The reasons were many, but primarily we wanted a better future for our son.
And so our journey began ...
